My Story, Her Story, His Story, Their Story

Isn’t it interesting how no two people will tell the same tale? We are all but visitors in each other’s lives, touching each other’s minds and hearts in different ways, leaving our own mark in the world. But we are also the same in this way, that we are all different. So why do we try to group ourselves with others based on things we cannot control? Race, class, gender, nationality, ethnicity, and more. Why can’t we celebrate what makes us unique rather than what makes us different? They mean the same thing but are also vastly different. We all want the same thing. We all want to share our story – but we cannot do so unless someone is willing to listen. We need unity without uniformity – and diversity without fragmentation. Instead of pointing fingers, what we must do first is seek to understand our differences. We are all diverse. We encompass a variety of races, genders, nationalities, and ethnicities. But we are also just human beings. Once we understand what is it that makes our differences, then maybe we can start to appreciate them. We need to share our story to make people understand our struggles. The first step is to speak up and speak out. And when the words start coming, don’t let them stop until your story is heard by everyone who you want to listen.
