This is the launch issue for Girl Up Houston’s Storytelling Campaign. Under the January theme of New Beginnings, students and writers in the Houston area submitted a staggering variety of works—from poems to heart-wrenching personal essays to bullet journal excerpts. Also featured this month is an editorial article written by Girl Up Houston’s Advocacy Lead, Gargi Rakhade, about the midterm elections. Read on to see what young Houstonians from marginalized communities are both celebrating and mourning in the new year.
